Tribute to Gladys Waite

Gladys Waite a most respected Burgh resident until having to spend her last years in a care home has sadly passed away on Friday 1st November 2019 aged 107.

Gladys has been one of Burgh’s most highly regarded residents and featured in many Burgh civic occasions.


In 2007 Gladys arrived in a grand limousine on Burgh Bypass to “cut the ribbon” in the opening ceremony followed by the residents “walking the bypass”.  2007 was a very important year for Burgh with the opening also of the newly refurbished recreation centre, again Gladys was a one of the VIP’s at the opening ceremony.


In 2012 Gladys celebrated her 100th birthday with a party in the W.I. Hall which was open house to all Burgh residents and Gladys’ friends and family.

Also in 2012, Burgh Town Council presented Gladys with their Community Service Award for her outstanding contribution to the life of the community and also for being “Burgh’s Poet Laureate!
