Scarecrow Trail a Great Success

Because of COVID the Residents Association were forced to cancel this year’s Furlongs Festival. We still wanted to have something for the community and the tourists to enjoy and raise a smile in these difficult times.

Brian from the Committee suggested a ‘Scarecrow Trail’ and over the following four weeks from our initial meeting after Lockdown, we had over 70 scarecrows around the area throughout August. This brought residents young and old, and various groups and local businesses together making scarecrows that brought a smile to both locals and tourists. The event was opened with a Cry from our very own David Summers, Town Cryer. We even had BBC Radio Lincolnshire’s Pirate Gold team Amy and drive Alan hunting for a scarecrow as one of their clues!

Following the huge success that this has been, the Association will organise another one for 2021. The scarecrows were judged by The Mayor and our Chairman, and the winner was ‘Field View Festival Group’. Well done and thank you to all who took part.

Fantastic idea and great fun walking around and spotting them.

Everybody has done an amazing job; congratulations to you all.

What a great community display. I hope this goes ahead next year. Would love to join in.

Had a wonderful time taking my granddaughters round the scarecrow trail after they saw mine “Nelly the nosey neighbour” will hopefully join in next year.

I really enjoyed walking round looking at them all, I especially liked Peaky Blinders (although my dogs didn’t!!!) Great idea.
